Artist Point - Yellowstone National Park, WY
In 1883 this spot on the south rim of the Gran Canyon of Yellowstone was named Artist’s Point in recognition of the paintings by Thomas Moran. Moran actually painted them from the north rim at a spot now known as Lookout Point or Moran’s Point. The 1872 paintings of this magnificent 300ft waterfall on the Yellowstone River, along with early photographs by William Henry Jackson, introduced Yellowstone to the outside world and played an important role in the creation of the nation's first national park.
No photograph viewed on a monitor can ever do this place justice. It is such an enormous and awe inspiring place. The waterfalls size and roar must be witnessed in person. Next to that, only a large print can truly convey the power of this setting.
