Rooted - Saint Lucia
As Lina and I took an early morning hike through the edges of a forest on the west coast of St Lucia, we came across this fantastic tree. It was not quite as big as some that surrounded it, but it gave the impression of being more firmly rooted in the ground with these beautiful buttresses stretching out around the base of its trunk. It was at once like a giant claw gripping the ground with all its might, while also like the flowing dress of a twirling tango dancer. I immediately stopped and looked for the best way to shoot it - to capture the strength and wistfulness that was somehow perfectly entwined.
